Digital Asset Management

As a digital asset management provider, Honeycomb Archive wants to provide you with resources to increase your daily efficiencies.  Here is a productive way to handle editing in Photoshop.

A Photoshop Action is a useful way to edit digital images quickly. Actions are a series of Photoshop operations that have been recorded by Photoshop so that you can run it on an image or folder of images at any time.

Creating an Action
We are going to convert a folder of color jpgs to grayscale eps images. If the action window is not already open go to the Window menu and select Actions. When you have the window open you can either click the arrow at the top and select New Action, or the Create New Action at the bottom. Name the action that describes the result of running the action and click then click Record.

This starts the recording process. Open a digital image from the folder and perform the steps you want included in the action. (Open > Image/Mode/Greyscale > Save As/EPS) When you are finished recording click the Stop Playing/Recording button at the bottom of the Actions palette.

Batch Processing
To run the action we just created on the entire folder of digital images go to the File menu, click Automate, then Batch. Select the action that you want to apply to the images.  Then choose the source folder that contains the images that we want to process. Click OK. The action will run and all of the images in the folder will be made into grayscale EPS images.

Creating a Droplet
Even more convenient than the batch process is creating a droplet thru photoshop. Once a droplet has been created it can be saved on the desktop to be used whenever it is needed. Go to File, then go to Automate, and then choose Create Droplet. Choose where you want to save the droplet and which action you want to play with it. Click OK.

Now you can drop your digital images or folders of images onto the droplet and it will convert them for you. This is what the droplet will look like.
