Digital Asset Management - How to use the Save for Web Feature in Photoshop

Saving digital images is so easy with the 'Save for Web' feature.  Photoshop provides a ‘Save for Web’ command that is very handy and designed for saving digital images that you want to put on the web. When using the Save for Web feature, digital images should be kept as small as possible in file size.  You can adjust the settings and save these images with JPEG, GIF, PNG or WBMP format. In this article we will show you how to save a digital image as a JPEG web quality file.

Creating a web image
Open your digital image in Photoshop. Click on Save for Web under the File pull-down menu.

When the Save for Web screen comes up you will have several options. At the top left is the tool bar.  From here you can move, slice, magnify and use the Color Picker. At the top of the screen there are four ways to view the digital image while in the Save for Web feature. Using the small arrow at the top right of the screen, you can choose the file size/download time.  On the right side of the screen, you have several options to customize the digital image, such as file type and quality. From the Color Table Menu (when PNG) you can edit and delete colors from the web palette. Using the Image Size Menu, you can also customize the size and quality of the digital image.

When you are finished with the digital image, click either Done to go back to normal editing mode in Photoshop, or click Save to save the image to web.
